There have been some reports about issues with the Updater not updating anymore. Please try the latest beta version and switch to another IP Check provider instead of the previous default dnsomatic.com. For some reason they are rate-limiting the number of requests to their service. The new IP Check provider selection allows you to choose another provider in such cases. You can test the functionality with the new "Test" panel.
If you want to add a custom provider to the unstable testing version, store a JSON file like the following under %PROGRAMDATA%\Marcs Updater\ServiceProviders\dyndns.json
:
{ "name": "DynDNS.org (Test)", "endpoint": "https://members.dyndns.org/nic/update", "method": "GET", "queryString": "hostname={HOSTNAME}&myip={MYIP}", "dataPayload": "", "defaults": { "username": "test", "password": "test", "hostname": "test1.customtest.dyndns.org" } }
Supported query and payload tags are {USERNAME}
, {PASSWORD}
, {HOSTNAME}
and {MYIP}
. Restart the background service and foreground application to apply any changes.

Hi,
Is it possible that the tool only searches for an external IP via a specific network card?
I use a VPN on the side and the updater often gets the external IP from the VPN instead of the direct internet access.

What's the Hostname field for? It's giving me errors.

Kinda feel like I must be doing something wrong. I'm having a problem setting up the Updater for OpenDNS. I've used the most recent stable and the beta.
No matter what I put in the username and password fields, I get "badauth" message in the lower right and a Windows notification stating " The username and password do not match a real user. Please check your settings to continue."
I've verified my credentials by logging into OpenDNS dashboard. Am I supposed to be using some other creds? I can't find any documentation for the Updater detailing what the major fields are expecting, so if Username and Password fields are not expecting OpenDNS creds, what are they expecting? Also, what am I supposed to be populating in "Hostname"?
Running latest Windows 10 build (21H2), if that matters.

Hello,
Sorry to disturb, I'd like to know if it's possible to update both domain and subdomain at once, using your tool.
I managed to update correctly my main domain through dnsomatic, but can't figure out how to update my subdomain at the same time, which is used for a specific service.
Is there any workaround to duplicate the config or launch the updater twice to make what I'm looking for ?
Thank you so much anyway, your software saved a lot of my time ! :)
Jeremie.
Edit: Nevermind, I found the answer here : https://updater.marc-hoersken.de/comments/discussions/554/

Hi there. Thanks for providing this great piece of software. I only have one computer that is always on, and it is always on a local VPN. I want the Updater to share the actual ISP provided router dynamic IP address, not the VPN IP address on this local computer. I have read this is possible using Local Network filtering but am not sure how to set it up. I have put the router IP in local network filtering (192.168.1.1) but the IP address that is updating to No-IP is still the VPN IP, not the router external IP. I just wanted to check if this is possible simply with a setting in the Updater, or if more work is required elsewhere?

Hi,
are there any plans to use TLSv3 in a future version?
My provider (spdyn.de) informs me with each update that the version used (TLSv1) will not be supported for much longer.
Thank you very much

Dear Marc!
Thanks for this great app! I'm using it as an alternative to the DYN.com client. Waaaaay better than the official DYN.com clinent in any aspect! Your app is small, quick, easy to setup and use, does what it says it does! All apps in the world should be like this! THANKS and keep up the good work!

Hi Marc, and thanks for this! A few days ago (5/15/2021), the updater provided by OpenDNS stopped working on my win-10 PRO (v1909) 64 bit machine. Support requests to OpenDNS simply go unanswered, but your updater (build 305 2017-04-23 PB 560 x64) seems to work! (At least it reports working, and unlike the one OpenDNS provides, it IS able to see and report my IP address). Anyway, should I inset a shortcut to this program into my STARTUP folder? Or maybe install it as a service somehow?

Dear Marc,
First of all, i wish you a happy/healthy new year!
I would like to know, what's the plan, when will you release 2.0? If i understand fine, the "custom provider support" is mean, if i have own dyndns solution with dyndns2 protocol, Marcs Updater client is works with my own server?
Regards,
Mate

I have someone using a web filter which routes traffic through a proxy, so the HTTP/HTTPS IPs show up as the proxy server IP address, but I need to have the updater use the real IP address, which does show up on the Test tab under "DNS A IP (IPv4)".
Is there any way to add an option/dropdown to have it use/send that DNS IP update address for the hostname, instead of using the HTTP/HTTPS IP address?
Thanks a lot!
