Marcs Updater

There have been some reports about issues with the Updater not updating anymore. Please try the latest beta version and switch to another IP Check provider instead of the previous default dnsomatic.com. For some reason they are rate-limiting the number of requests to their service. The new IP Check provider selection allows you to choose another provider in such cases. You can test the functionality with the new "Test" panel.

If you want to add a custom provider to the unstable testing version, store a JSON file like the following under %PROGRAMDATA%\Marcs Updater\ServiceProviders\dyndns.json:

{
    "name": "DynDNS.org (Test)",
    "endpoint": "https://members.dyndns.org/nic/update",
    "method": "GET",
    "queryString": "hostname={HOSTNAME}&myip={MYIP}",
    "dataPayload": "",
    "defaults": {
        "username": "test",
        "password": "test",
        "hostname": "test1.customtest.dyndns.org"
    }
}

Supported query and payload tags are {USERNAME}, {PASSWORD}, {HOSTNAME} and {MYIP}. Restart the background service and foreground application to apply any changes.

Hi Marc,
The balloon pop-ups are appearing every 120 minutes (the max), telling me that the IP address has been updated to exactly the same address as it was.

Is there any way get them to only pop-up when the IP address actually changes?

Thanks,
Tom.

I also noticed this. In my experience it's like this: after the IP has been updated and you click on a balloon tip, then the very same balloon tip will appear (over and over if you keep on clicking it). Also, this same happens if you double-click on Marcs Updater's icon in the system tray (or right-click and choose Marcs Updater) and click the OK button in the GUI (and not Cancel). These are just my personal observations though! :)

I will investigate on the balloon behavior.

Now after re-reading Tom's comment once more I see that what I've described was something totally different. Although I also noticed the behavior that he described, i.e. balloon tips popping-up on specified intervals even thought the IP wasn't changed (actually updated) in the mean time.

Thanks for the tip. OpenDNS asked me to send an update them at least every 2.0 + rand(0.5) hours. I will have to change the balloon notification to ignore those forced updates if the IP hasn't changed.
