There have been some reports about issues with the Updater not updating anymore. Please try the latest beta version and switch to another IP Check provider instead of the previous default dnsomatic.com. For some reason they are rate-limiting the number of requests to their service. The new IP Check provider selection allows you to choose another provider in such cases. You can test the functionality with the new "Test" panel.
If you want to add a custom provider to the unstable testing version, store a JSON file like the following under %PROGRAMDATA%\Marcs Updater\ServiceProviders\dyndns.json
:
{ "name": "DynDNS.org (Test)", "endpoint": "https://members.dyndns.org/nic/update", "method": "GET", "queryString": "hostname={HOSTNAME}&myip={MYIP}", "dataPayload": "", "defaults": { "username": "test", "password": "test", "hostname": "test1.customtest.dyndns.org" } }
Supported query and payload tags are {USERNAME}
, {PASSWORD}
, {HOSTNAME}
and {MYIP}
. Restart the background service and foreground application to apply any changes.

I have one small issue, after computer start it wait till 5 minutes to check for IP, can this change to check and update for IP at once when service started and later on it can keep checking for IP in every 5 minutes...

Thanks, Marc for providing this updater - it works really well.
There seems to be a small problem with the timestamps in "IP Updates". They do not correspond to the computers time and seem to be UTC times. Is that correct?
Best wishes.

Hello Marc, I've installed the client and put in the username and pw. When clicking ok I'm always getting an error message Error The host name ...... I've checked and the user name and pw is correct. What could be the reason? Thanks!! Heinz

Hello Marc again, I am (yet again :( sadly...) posting to let you know about the "certificate issue", and the reason why I am doing this is that now it looks different. Compare to previous windows that popped-up, the one that pops-up now looks totally different. That's all I had to say, otherwise no problems with MU and I am using your program from the very beginning, i.e. from when it was still "official OpenDNS's updater" if I recall correctly (or at least recommended by OpenDNS, that's before they've developed their own).
As always, keep up the good work and best regards, Tadej from Slovenia

Windows 7

Just an occasional feedback. :) I am writing to let you know that I am still getting that certificate related "Security Alert" in the latest 1.5.2.290 version of Marcs Updater.
It seems to me (but really this is just a "feeling", it may have been the same in the previous versions) that in this version it's appearing even a bit more regularly (each time if I restart the service and/or lunch the GUI after that).
I am not an expert at all in SSL security certificates but if I would have to guess what's the reason for this (considering two green check-marks and that one exclamation mark on the window) my guess would be that it's because of an asterisk in the name (i.e. *.marc-hoersken.de), in other words, if the "name on the security certificate" would be "updater.marc-hoersken.de" it would "match the name of the site" and this would not happen.
Anyway, thumbs-up for updating the program (fixing major bugs & little glitches) so often. Tadej P. from Slovenia

The Updater ran fine on my old system, but my new one has dual NIC's and the updater is trying to use the wrong one. Tried adding the correct gateway to the filter, but didn't change anything.

My last comment was so indented, I'm not sure if it was noticed or not. I'm repeating it here for clarity. In reply to the question on the GUI not displaying the new networks.
It's Win7 64bit but I found the problem. Along the way many empty
entries had been added to the list of acceptable wireless networks.
Hence "new" entries were being added but were so far down the list they
were not being displayed in the GUI. I deleted the spurious entries
(some were garbage) and now it seems to be working. Many thanks.
Thanks again!

Marc, thank you and here's the latest trace. The SSID still shows as empty, but you do have the right GUID. The local network filtering did work this time around though. Wireless Network filtering is as before.
Please do post any other instructions if they would be helpful for your diagnosis.
